Outstanding Community Counselor Award
Marsha Skaggs

2011 Outstanding Community CounselorMarsha Skaggs is currently a Mental Health Specialist for the Child Focus, School Based Program, which provides prevention and consultation to students and faculty in all nine school districts in Clermont County. Marsha has over 15 years of experience as a counselor. She and her husband, Bryon, were also Child Focus’ first licensed therapeutic foster family when the program began in 1989 and remain foster and adoptive parents to this day. Marsha served as a contract therapist for Child Focus from 1998-2000 and has been employed in our School-Based Program since September 2006. Marsha’s advocacy and support of children has been a life-long and enthusiastic commitment. She began her service to children as a caseworker for Clermont County Children’s Protective Services, as a Victim Advocate for the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office, a parent educator at Children and Parents Together, a counselor at Cincinnati Public Schools and is an advocate and advisor supporting foster and kinship care with OFCA, the Ohio Family Care Association. Marsha also regularly facilitates a training called Love and Logic, a parent-based behavior management program that teaches parenting skills for raising accountable, self-disciplined children.

Marsha holds her MA in Counseling from Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary. She is also a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Licensed Social Worker (LSW). Her previous experience includes therapy, teaching, parent education and case management, as well as being a foster parent.

Marsha was awarded The Mary Corre Foster Community Counselor Award because of her dedication, passion and enthusiasm in serving children and families as a professional counselor in our community.
