2011 Marvin Rammelsberg
Outstanding School Counselor Award
Carl Grueninger
This year’s recipient is Carl Grueninger. Carl is currently Director of Guidance and Counseling at Walnut Hills High School. He has over 32 years of experience working for Cincinnati Public Schools. He has published articles in the Critical Incident Stress Management Journal and Educational Forum. He has experience serving on many committees and continues to volunteer his time to serve students, parents and the profession of school counseling.
The following quote is from an intern at Walnut Hills High School. It explains some of the many reasons why Carl was nominated and chosen for this award “If every school had a counselor like Carl Grueninger, I truly believe there would never again be any question or doubt… as to the critical necessity of this profession. He is ALWAYS available to the students, their parents, the faculty, the administrators, other school counselors, college admissions counselors, alumnae, and visitors. Though he has been in the profession for over a decade and could easily retire, he continues to show enthusiasm and dedication as if he had just begun. Carl, though head counselor with a case load over 200, …spends as much time as the students need…
I feel I have been given the opportunity to work with the “cream of the crop” in this profession. He has always invited and encouraged me to attend events concerning the profession… He also strongly encouraged me to volunteer… because he clearly believes in volunteerism, and giving back to the community. He has shown me all sides of the profession from crisis counseling to college counseling to lunch room duty and test monitoring. He has spent infinite hours talking with me about all he has learned and yet shows an eagerness and total enjoyment when students present him with something he has never thought of or seen.
Carl is continuously asked to give presentations both local and national and rarely turns them down… Carl is incredibly humble, knowledgeable and kind... “
We are pleased to present Carl Grueninger with the Marvin Rammelsberg Distinguished School Counselor Award for 2011.
