Mary Grover
Mary Grover earned her Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Cincinnati in 1982, and her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from the University of Cincinnati in 1996. She has been practicing as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor since 1997. Mary has worked for the Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Healthcare Services organization, The Counseling Source and Talbert House Inc. as a Master Clinical Service Provider. She also served as Director of Education for the Mental Health Association of Southwest Ohio.
Since 2005, Mary has worked at Tender Mercies Inc. in Over-the-Rhine. The mission of Tender Mercies is “to serve homeless persons with histories of mental and/or emotional disabilities by providing them housing and related services.” Tender Mercies is an agency dedicated to providing dignity, community, and security for its residents. Mary manages program intake, acts as Service Coordinator for a Transitional Housing program serving 16 residents, and serves as the agency’s Clients Rights Officer. She also supervises Xavier University Counseling Practicum students providing counseling services for Tender Mercies residents.
One of her supervisees remarked: “Mary has been a model for ways to cope with clients who are suffering from emotional distress and mental illness. She has encouraged me to continue to find sustenance through images of wellness that inspire me. Mary has helped me understand the importance of seeking balance in my work as a counselor.”
Mary Grover is committed to honoring the whole person and striving to support each person with respect and care. She commented, “It has been my privilege to work so closely with people who simply need to know that they are valuable and valued. I have certainly received so much more than I could ever give, and am grateful for all the persons who have enhanced my life”. |
