Diane Stump
Diane earned her Master of Education degree in 1979 from Eastern Kentucky University. She began her career as a counselor at Midway College in Kentucky, where she established the College’s first counseling office. Prior to joining Cincinnati State, Diane was the Director of the Educational Talent Search Program (TRIO) at Northern Kentucky University from 1980 to 1984, where she was responsible for career and academic counseling, and program administration.
Diane Stump has been a Counselor at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College since 1984, where she provides academic, career, and personal counseling. Diane also regularly teaches courses in the College’s Communications Department. She has been recognized by her peers nine times as a nominee for the College’s House-Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award, and she received the award in 2002. Diane has successfully authored and administered numerous grants that provide assistance for Cincinnati State students, including programs to establish services for students with disabilities and programs that aid displaced workers, homemakers, and other special populations who need extra support to attain a college degree.
Diane’s focus on providing students with tools for success placed her in a key role in developing the College’s First Year Experience class, which is now required for all new students at Cincinnati State. Diane serves as the ongoing monitor of quality for this course, including offering training programs for new course instructors. Additionally, Diane was a leader in establishing a New Student Orientation program that is attended by incoming students and their parents. Recently, Diane assumed a leadership role in establishing a Back on Track program for students who are academically at risk. Since 1988, Diane has provided classes in Learning and Study Skills for each group of new recruits at the Cincinnati Police Academy, as well as classes in Learning Styles for the Police Academy Training Officers. Diane also has contributed to Cincinnati State by serving for nine years as a member of the Faculty Senate, including four years as the Senate President. She also has four years service as an officer of the College chapter of the American Association of University Professors. She has served on numerous College committees.
Diane was a board member of the Greater Cincinnati Counseling Association from 1995 to 1999 and served as the organization’s President in 1998. The GCCA board appreciates Diane’s constant support of the local professional organization for counselors.
