2008 Mary Corre Foster Award

Presented to Claudia Moye

Claudia Moye Mary Corre Foster Award Claudia Moye holds a license as an independent chemical dependency counselor and social worker in the State of Ohio. She is currently completing her Master of Arts in Counseling at Xavier University. She earned a Bachelors of Social Work from Northern Kentucky University and holds a degree in dental hygiene from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.

Early in her professional career, Claudia worked as a dental hygienist for Cincinnati Public Schools and the City Health Department. In 1985, she began working at the Center for Chemical Addictions Treatment (CCAT), a drug and alcohol detox and treatment center in Cincinnati’s West End. For the past 12 years, she has served as Program Manager and Supervisor for the Residential Program. Prior positions at CCAT include Aftercare Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and Primary Counselor.

In 1999, Claudia was honored to receive the Alcoholism Council’s Weir Goodman Award which was in recognition of outstanding dedication and work on behalf of alcoholics and their families. She is a member of the International People to People Ambassadorship Program, and has been fortunate to participate as an ambassador in South Africa, China and Egypt. Ambassadors consult with professionals in substance abuse and mental health counseling in the host country. They visit their direct service locations, hold seminars and learn from each other in the various fields of treatment. It has also been a means of bringing different cultures together with understanding, and participating with each other on a personal and professional basis which completes the Ambassadors’ mission.

Lori Zimmerman of CCAT writes:
I remember one day I was walking through the hallway and a client named Matt was passing me in a hurry. He was very anxious and reported to me that he was leaving the rehabilitation facility. Matt had just completed detox and was preparing to begin his counseling program. I invited Matt to talk with me before he left the building. Matt reported he was frustrated with his counselor and did not picture himself getting sober. Since I am not part of counseling staff, I was uncertain about what to say to him. Right at that moment, Miss Claudia walked into the room. She asked Matt what was going on. Matt responded that he planned to leave CCAT that day. Miss Claudia looked Matt in the eye and said Matt, I know you are frustrated right now. I want you to meet me at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning to talk. I need you to think about what you are doing. Matt, I don’t want you to die and you don’t want to die either. Matt left the room. Later I discovered Matt canceled his ride and stayed the night to meet with Miss Claudia the next morning. Miss Claudia is a genuine person and well respected colleague at CCAT and in the recovering community.

On behalf of the Greater Cincinnati Counseling Association, I am pleased to present Miss Claudia with the Mary Corre Foster Outstanding Community Counseling Award.
